David de Gea - Another Almunia?

2010/2011 Barclays Premier League Champions, Manchester United started off on the right note when they beat Roy Hodgson's West Bromwich Albion in an entertaining match at The Hawthorns.

Goals from Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young was enough to sink the resurgent Baggies who were in it to win the game.

Shane Long, debutant for WBA, couldn't have expected such a debut as the Former Reading man scored the equaliser for WBA only to be denied by a lucky winner from Ashley Young.

However, the goal from Long raised so much discussions as many questioned the ability of 20 year old Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea. Shane Long who tried his luck with a tame audacious shot saw the ball went past the highly rated Spaniard.

Many would have expected better from him but he instead did an 'Almunia'! Knowing that his composure would have been shattered by that mistake, WBA played physical against him and the lad wouldn't have wanted to such a start in the premier league.

Sir Alex Ferguson, criticised the youngsters carelessness in trying to save that shot but he told that the De Gea is still young and even Peter Schemeichel had a tough time acclimatizing when he first came.

So, the question will De Gea become another Almunia?

The answer is NO! I may be an Arsenal fan but when you look at De Gea's attributes and age, time is there for him. Being a first choice goalkeeper at the age 20 is a mean feat!

His first two games were not good enough as he allowed to goals at Wembley and one tame shot at the Hawthorns. Age at his side, he is not a veteran and he has lots to learn before he emulates the great Van Der Sar.

Manchester United has a made a sound investment and eventhough, he showed signs of jittery in the first two games, the former Vicente Calderon favourite will be back to his best in no time.

Being a fast learner, I'm sure he will come back stronger and with Manchester United losing talismanic Rio Ferdinand and Inspirational Nemanja Vidic to injuries, It's his time to shine and I'm sure Phil Jones and Chris Smalling will be pushing this young Spaniard to be focused in the coming games.

Avinesh's verdict: Almunia is Almunia la...No one can be like him.. he is SPECIAL! =p
