Only they themselves can defeat themselves! What a start by the Red Devils! Out of 5 games, they have chalked out 5 victories. Scalping teams like Arsenal and Chelsea, Sir Alex Ferguson is a happy man! Last season was a tough one for them but this season, has been a breeze for the team.
Yesterday's victory against Chelsea, was not a morale booster but a warning to their rivals! Aiming for their 20th Premier League trophy, Manchester United are on a baptism of fire and they look strong for the title. The Old Trafford based team are the genuine title contenders.
Teams like Manchester City and Chelsea will be their challengers but with such a start, Sir Alex will munch the chew gum with a smile! What has made them so indomitable that they have won 5 games in a row and all of them in convincing manners.
The form of Wayne Rooney should be noticed as the lad has been a revelation. With a new touche, the 26 year old Merseyside boy has banged in 13 goals in 6 games and he is bound to score more! His hattricks against Arsenal and Bolton cemented his reputation as a fearsome forward. Being the senior player after being with the team for 6 years, he is bound to be an important asset for the team. A complete team player, i used to despise him but now, I'm in awe with his abilities and he has changed a lot as a human being!
The new signings made by Ferguson has also helped the squad. Ashley Young's contribution towards the team has been immense and I wished, Wenger had signed the English international. Always on the go, the winger has assisted many goals and his performance against Arsenal was just world class. 18 year old Phil Jones had filled admirably in central defence as his performances against Chelsea, Arsenal and Bolton warranted him a place in the England squad.
Academy boys Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley have impressed this seaon. Cleverley has been earmarked as the next Paul Scholes. His passing, runs and awareness belies his age and he will be an asset in the coming seasons for the Red Devils. His stint with Wigan has improved him as a player and he is a frightening prospect. As for Wellbeck, he has been impressive in his first 2 starts with Manchester United. His love for Manchester United can be his when pressed his stride too hard against Arsenal. He will be one player that Ferguson will rely on this season.
The achilles heel of team would be the goalkeeping position. The defense has made sure that the goalkeeping worries is a thing of the past after Van Der Sar's retirement but i just feel that De Gea still needs time to adapt. Sir Alex should draft in Anders Lindergaard into the squad as his performance against Benfica merited him a place against Chelsea. However, against Chelsea he opted for De Gea. Though, the youngster is showing signs of improvement but I feel that Lindergaard should be given more games as he is much composed and calm when facing pressure situations.
As for Chelsea, I would say that Andres Villas Boas is doing a great job though losing against Manchester United. They dominated the proceeding but didn't make their chances count. I'm sure he will be fretting the form of Fernando Torres. Nando who was sensational with Liverpool has found it hard to score goals in Chelsea and yesterday he broke his duck by scoring the only goal for Chelsea.
Many thought, that the man is back but in the 83rd minute he squandered a golden oppurtunity. If Harry Redknapp was there, he would have told that his wife could have done better with that chance. If he had scored that goal, things would have been different and the Red Devils would have been on the firing line. His miss will surely go down as the miss of the season. His tenure with Chelsea has not been sweet and his needs to quickly assert himself before AVB makes the cull on him!
Chelsea, though with few veterans are still doing well thanks to presence of younger legs like Juan Mata, Ramires and Daniel Sturridge. Andre will be relying on these lads as Lampard, Drogba and Terry are reaching the wrong side on 30s. They still can contribute but lads like Mata, Ramires and Sturridge will surely be the toast of the team. Mata's introduction has been good so far as he has been the pivotal part of their attacking force. Torres will surely shine some day as Mata knows how to unlock defences and also make them pay for their mistakes.
Both teams are the genuine title contenders but Manchester United looks to be the team to beat for now. If they continue with this momentum, no doubt, the 20th Premier League title will remain at Manchester. What a legacy, SAF has been creating and I've got to give credit to the man, he is one helluva of a manager! as for AVB, his learning and I'm sure his team will bounce back. Young lad with brilliant ideas, Chelsea will be a force to be reckoned with but they need to rectify Torres's situation! His needs to start scoring before he becomes an all time flop!
