Kedah stamped their mark in the year of 2007 and 2008, as they notched the treble in both seasons. Having won the Malaysia Cup, Super League and FA Cup, Kedah were one of the most dominant forces in Malaysia as they likes of Marlon Alex James, Nelson San Martin, Baddrol Bakhtiar and Victor Andrag proved to be the indomitable forces for Kedah.
However, since Azraai Khor Abdullah left, things started to dwindle as the team only managed to finish in midtable and they couldn't counter the onslaught of emerging giants like Kelantan and Terengganu. Last season proved to be a poor one as they only finished 4th in the league and the fared miserably in the FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.
Come 2012,Kedah will be starting the season on a sour note as their head coach, Wan Jamak Wan Hassan is suspended for 6 months by FAM. The mercurial coach will be replaced by Nidzam Adzha Yusoff, former Perak and Kedah playmaker who is also Kedah's President team coach.
Kedah, known for their ability to breed talented youngsters will be on their toes this season. They are continuing that tradition as they have brought in youngsters such as forwards,Mohd Syamim Alif Mohd Sobri and Shazuan Ashraff Mathews, defender, Bashahrul Abu Bakar and midfielder, See Kok Luen. These players have been regularly for their previous clubs as Wan Jamak Wan Hassan has brought in these players to replace players such as Azmi Muslim, Ahmad Fauzi Shaari, Shafizan Hashim and Azlan Ismail.
However, the lost of Ahmad Shakir Ali to Negeri Sembilan would be sorely felt by the team as the youngster is one of the most hottest prospects in Malaysia. The striker who has been selected several times for the National U-23 has been a constant menace for opposing defenders and his absence would place more pressure on the likes of Shazuan and foreign signing, Daniel Soares Neves.
Kedah have signed two Brazilians to bolster the young squad. Forward, Daniel Soares Neves and defender, Danilo Vivaldo have plied their trade in Asia before as they impressed the Kedah management with their workrate and skills. Many fans are hoping that these 2 players will emulate the efforts of Marcos Magno and Andre Luis Nascimento who proved to be a big hit with the Kedah fans.
