5 players in 2 days...SPEECHLESS....

Panic buys or quality buys? We are not sure with that but Arsene Wenger is making an intent to rejuvenate the squad. After the 8-2 defeat, the rumour mill went berserk with news of Arsenal enquiring players from around the European region.

The transfer deadline has closed, Arsenal have signed 5 players in 2 days. One of the most exciting transfer campaigns for Arsenal, 2 players with Premier League pedigree and 3 lads from three different leagues.

All over the age of 26, this is a sign of intent from Wenger to bring in experience rather than raw talent. Arsene Wenger who is under pressure to bring in new players and change the fortune of Arsenal, have made signings which to me reminds me of the days of Overmars, Bergkamp, Anelka and Pires.

Park Chu Young, Andre Santos, Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun will strengthen the squad and increase the average age of the squad.

Park Chu Young, 26, South Korea's captain will be donning the number 9 jersey. Many of the fans were skeptical of Park's arrival but to me, he is a 'Wenger' signing. Technically brilliant, an eye for detail and ability to lead players, the man who formerly played for FC Seoul will be able to compliment players like Gervinho, Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott.

Andre Santos, 28, all the way from Fenerbache, will be a welcome addition to the sqaud as he will provide competition for the young Kieran Gibbs. Armand Traore who is the other left back for Arsenal have left for Queens Park Rangers, thus making Andre Santos's arrival a must. His ability to dribble past players, great overlapping runs and his resemblance of Gilberto Silva(LOL!!) will endear well with the fans.

Per Mertesacker, 26, is what we need. Tall, imposing and clean defender, he and Vermaelen will be a hit in the Emirates. The former Hannover 96 and Wender Bremen player have been a revelation with the Germany squad and at 26, he is at the peak of his career. Coming out from the Bundesliga for the first time, he will surely relish his chance of playing against players like Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero.

Mikel Arteta, 29, the man bound to replace the ever brilliant Francesc Fabregas will take the attack a much needed lift. Arsenal, who have only scored 2 goals in three games will surely rely on his premier league pedigree to unlock defences. Having been in the Premier League since 2006, the former Real Sociedad player will surely be a hit with the fans. His passes, jinking runs, eye for detail will surely whet Wenger's appetite.

Lastly, Israeli International, Yossi Benayoun, 31, will provide competition for Park Chu Young, Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey for the playmaking berth. Having started with West Ham in the Premier League, with buckets of his experience behind his back, he will surely inspire the boys to do better. Having cultivated the winning pedigree from Chelsea, his experience and style of play will surely rub on the squad.

Arsene Wenger is ushering a new team after the massacre at Old Trafford. Many might say, this are panic buys but Wenger will surely have plans to mould these players into the squad. Opting for experience than raw talent, the Emirates is bound to see a new brand of football and renewed hope of optimism for the fans at Ashburton Grove.

Avinesh's verdict: In Wenger, I trust...Now lets prove to everyone that we mean business with these signings...

  1. Not sure about the attacking lineup but man...Mertesacker in the back? That will be awesome. I hope he brings his international form to Emirates. We really need it

  2. yeap..he is a class act with Germany..His height and sheer physical presence is enough to give the defense a much needed lift. Andre Santos looks good physically and his attacking verve is pretty good..he reminds me of Sylvinho..The attacking line up, we shall just wait and see but with Arteta, the team will be much more creative and he has an able back up in the form of Yossi Benayoun..Time to get back to winning ways for Arsenal..=)
